We are wood lovers, although this has not yet been reflected in our respective training and career paths. Until Bowud…! High-quality furniture made from real wood has the ability, through all the senses it stimulates, to take us on a journey, to remind us of our walks in the forest hand in hand with grandpa, to smell that workshop smell. It is for all these reasons that we wish to offer you the quality of our custom-made shelves and table or desk tops, to remind everyone, including us, of our own memories.

Why Bowud?

Bowud's main reason for being is to provide access to quality work, made in France by carpenters in their workshops, all inlaid on real wood, with no minimum order.With bowud we would also like, at our level, to fight against plastic-coated wood furniture in various colors which do not stimulate any of the senses, unlike fine wood marquetry furniture. Finally, it also simplifies your access and ordering process, regardless of the quantity ordered, for work carried out by carpenters. All done in 3-4 weeks.

How does the purchase work?

Although it is true that we are dealing here with a product usually offered in a traditional sales channel, Bowud wants you to enjoy wood worked by craftsmen in the easiest and most intuitive way possible.Through our website, you can order your shelf like any other product available online. Simply select the shelf you want, based on its length, the wood type, and the quantity of each, and your basket will be created.All you have to do then is validate your basket, pay online and our French craftsmen will get to work to satisfy you as best as possible and as quickly as possible!

When will I be delivered?

Once the order has been validated and paid for, and after we have possibly validated the measurements with you, our craftsmen get to work! So, after validation of your order, we will start the production of your beautiful custom boards and shelves so that you are ready for delivery within 3-4 weeks following your order. This is one of our promises and we do everything to ensure it is respected as best we can :)

What guarantees are offered?

Our shelves are made in France by artisans. Each shelf is inspected by expert eyes and hands. However, we are never safe from the odd shelf that doesn't meet our quality standards and manages to slip through the cracks.Therefore, if you receive a shelf with a defect, please send us your request by email to the following address: contact@bowud.com.If the defect is proven, we will send you a new shelf as quickly as possible, at no extra cost of course, with our sincere apologies.From the moment you receive your wall shelf, you have 72 hours to send us any warranty application requests.Finally, wood is a material that lives and changes over time. Because we use real wood, it's also possible that signs of wear may appear. This is also the beauty of this noble material and why we love working with it.

How to install the shelves?

Our bowud shelves are delivered with the wall mount (console). This console must first be fixed to the wall with: a pre-drilled hole, 2 per console (several consoles depending on the size of the shelf chosen) of the diameter of the chosen dowel; a dowel, chosen depending on the type of wall in which you wish to place your shelves, to insert into the pre-drilled hole. Then comes the step of screwing the console into the dowels. Finally, simply slide the shelf into the fixings screwed to the wall. And there you have your beautiful bowud shelf!Please note that depending on the type of wall, you will need to think in terms of the weight allowed per hole made (dowel inserted) as mentioned in the “strength of your shelves” section.Finally, an installation guide is available online at the following address: https://www.bowud.com/revue-technique

What is included in the shipment?

You will receive a beautiful Bowud box containing:Your shelf, of course.The hardware, also called console, the number of which varies depending on the length of your shelfPlease note that dowels and screws are not included in the shipment.Since the dowel/screw set is inherent to your wall type, we cannot allow ourselves to provide you with 10 sets based on the 10 possible wall types. This would be an unnecessary additional cost for you and also a waste...

How strong are your shelves? Are the fasteners?

Accepted Answer

The permitted weight per linear meter is between 10kg and 20kg. This calculation takes into account the size of the shelf in relation to the strength of the fixings and should also be moderated depending on your wall and the strength of the anchors you may use.Example: if your wall is made of concrete or if it is a load-bearing wall, the invisible anchors and screws will be twice as strong as if you have a Placoplâtre wall. Easy, right? :)

What types of walls can I fix my shelves to?

Accepted Answer

You can fix your shelf to any type of wall using wall plugs and then screws. The only nuance to make is the strength of the plugs depending on your wall type. Thus, a solid concrete wall will have a much greater strength than a placo wall. The plugs you buy for your concrete wall will be indicated as having a much greater strength than plugs for placo walls. You will therefore have to calculate the maximum weight that can be fixed to the wall based on the strength of your plugs. Said like that, it sounds a bit megalomaniac, it's true :)But don't worry, the resistances listed by anchor manufacturers are well calculated. And if all this still scares you, you can always opt for a home installation!

How do I maintain my shelves?

Accepted Answer

Since our shelves are made of real wood, you should treat them as such when maintaining them.A damp cloth can be used for small stains or for dusting. For the maintenance of the wood itself, we recommend using matte wood oil or matte effect wax every 6 months to 1 year depending on the exposure and use you make of your shelf. Indeed, significant exposure to outdoor light, and therefore UV rays, or significant use of the shelf as a dish storage, for example, may require more routine maintenance. But again, with proper maintenance, your shelves can stay looking like new for a very (very) long time. Unless you are a fan of a patinated effect... To each his own shelf.Our colorless decorative varnishes form a protective layer, like a film, on the wood. Indeed, the wood must be able to continue to regulate itself with its surrounding environment, and the protective film remains sufficiently microporous to ensure effective exchanges.However, the impermeability of protective varnishes should not be confused with waterproofing, which are very different concepts. Complete waterproofing risks causing outright rotting of the wood in the long term.Our wood varnishes allow the surface to breathe, preventing it from penetrating into the wood if the water is immediately removed, for example, and preventing it from altering or damaging it. Real wood is always a fragile material and must be cared for regularly.

I am a craftsman, how can I offer Bowud shelves?

We have thought of you by allowing you, the craftsman that you are, to benefit from the work of carpenters quickly, in 3 weeks, while remaining on quantities that are not too binding. We have thus created the Hadrien line, 10 linear meters of the species that you want, in the dimensions that you need or by pack (5 different packs) that you can order and then install at your customer's. You can of course order individually. Conversely, an individual can of course order a Hadrien pack as well. If you have larger and/or more specific needs, do not hesitate to contact us.
